Advanced Driving trainingThe Burton & South Derbyshire Institute of Advanced Motorists aims to promote good driving in the local community. We hold regular observed sessions on Sunday mornings (see the events page for dates), at 9:30am in the Priory Centre, Church Road, which is adjacent to the Monk's Bridge pub in the centre of Stretton, Burton on Trent. Through a series of sessions lasting about an hour each, our Observers coach Associate Members up to the standard required to pass the Advanced Driving Test, a qualification which is recognised by the Driving Standards Agency. The Observers assess the Associate's driving throughout the session and make constructive comments about their driving in order to help them pass the test. An assessment form is filled in at the end of the session and the Associate is taken through each section, pointing out any areas that need improvement. Each session covers a different aspect of driving, such as motorways and dual carriageways, cornering, left and right turns and traffic islands. As we do not have an easily accessible motorway near Burton we use the nearby A38 and A50 dual carriageways to practice the use of motorways. All the sessions are based on the IAM manual "Pass Your Advanced Driving Test" which in turn is based on the police driving manual "Roadcraft". The Advanced Driving Test is conducted by independent examiners who are police Class 1 drivers. The duration of the test is about 1½ hours. Why not ring our group contact number, on 07017 422989 and arrange a free, no obligation test drive. You can also request a free information pack. Go to the Events page to see when the next observed session is. Skid pan trainingCurrently, due to the closure of the training centre at Hixon, no skid pan training courses are available. |
